Kathy D. Saunders and Cole Saunders
Kathy D. Saunders, 57, and her grandson, Cole Christian Saunders, 4 years old, both of Spencer, W.Va., died of injuries sustained in an auto accident west of Spencer on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
Kathy was born April 29, 1952, a daughter of Virginia Hope Young of Green Bank, W.Va., and the late Orville Young.
She was a Parkersburg High School graduate and formerly worked at the Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg. She was a good homemaker, was the bookkeeper and manager for Saunders Logging and enjoyed her family. She was the secretary of the Cherry Valley Church and was a lifetime Christian.
Cole enjoyed his trampoline, swimming, singing in church, four-wheeling, tractors, and attending 4-H Cloverbud meetings. Cole also attended the Cherry Valley Church.
In addition to her mother, Kathy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jerry E. Saunders; one daughter, Dreama Saunders of Spencer; one son, Jerry E. Saunders, Jr. and his wife, Judy of Spencer; four grandchildren, Dillon Greathouse, Houston Huffman, and Calvin and Alexis Saunders; six sisters, Pam Roush of Clendenin, Patricia Jones of Big Chimney, Iyronna McKinstry of Sandyville, Gloria Jean Barber of South Carolina, Barbara Dickson of Alexander, Tenn., and Sondra Meads of Ripley; one brother, Billy Young of Green Bank; and her father-in-law, George C. Saunders of Spencer.
In additiion to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Young.
Cole is survived by his mother, Dreama Saunders; father, David Profitt; two brothers, Dillon Greathouse and Houston Huffman; maternal grandfather, Jerry E. Saunders; paternal grandparents, Roger Profitt of Spencer and Delores Jenkins of Ripley; maternal great-grandfather, George C. Saunders; uncle and aunt, Jerry E. and Judy Saunders, Jr.; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Cole was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Mildred L. Saunders.
Joint services for Kathy and Cole will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Revs. Larry Jones and Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Saunders Family Cemetery on the family farm on Stover Fork Road, Spencer. Visiting hours are from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
