Garden-fresh recipes are a summer delight
This is the worst garden I have ever had. The squash have given up the ghost and their row has been tilled up for some blackberry vines that I got. Of course, this is the wrong time of year to transplant berry vines so they may make it and they may not. The garden pea vines are gone as are those cucumber vines that never learned their reason to exist. I could have bought more cucumbers for the money I spent on the seeds than they produced. The fight is still on with the weeds among the peppers and the weeds are winning. The pitiful tomatoes are ripening - too fast to get them into jars. The sunflowers are great, though. It certainly would be a lot more peaceful in the world if those terrorists would put in gardens — they wouldn’t have time to fight anyone. Canning and preserving food has a very satisfying effect for those who routinely do it. Those rows of jars filled with the summer harvest, sitting on the cellar shelves, reflect the work of women providing for their families.
